Letter to the Editor: Strasburg does not need bump outs

Editor:

Those of you who travel through Strasburg have probably seen the marks for the replacement of the water and sewer lines. I understand that the town received some funding for this project. However, I also learned that the town plans to build bump outs along the main street similar to those built in Woodstock and in Front Royal near the hospital, which cut down on the amount of parking.

Bump outs create areas that are difficult for many people to get in and out of, and will provide fewer places for tourists to park to spend their dollars. Front Royal received so many complaints that they removed some of them.

I can see the Strasburg putting flower boxes in place of the trees that were cut down, but they need to use the money they would use on bump outs to improve sidewalk conditions in other parts of the town and leave the nice straight path we have today on the main street through town.

Let us not make the same mistake that nearby towns have made. Bump outs are a waste of concrete and resources, and even cause difficulties for traffic just passing through. Let the mayor or your councilman know now! I hear they don't plan to install the bump outs until fall so let your voice be heard now while plans and funds can be re-allocated. Let's show that Rams are smart.
