Letter to the Editor: Acts of terrorism bring us closer together

As a nation built on the foundation of its constitutional rights and freedoms, one of our most important is freedom of religion, though not everyone shares similar beliefs opinions and idealisms. To ensure us of our rights, we have laws, we elect officials who make our laws, and employ peace officers to enforce them.

When a person living in our boundaries has been proven to have broken our laws, that person shall receive punishment fit for his or her crimes, and proper justice will be served.

We do not wage war on the innocent people of other nations for not sharing our beliefs. Why, then, are there extremests who terrorize our great nation with hate, murder and destruction, wanting to tear us down, rip us apart and make us feel weak? They don't realize that not only do they bring us closer together, they strengthen our faith in God and that makes America the strongest and the best nation in the world.

As a prominent Christian nation and our faith in God, we can find in our hearts to love and forgive those who have done wrong and caused us pain.

Rex Terwilliger, Winchester
