Letter to the Editor: Are there side effects to these land banks?

Editor:

Giving preferential treatment to one group may result in discrimination to another group.

I had heard tell that in the early 1960s Fairfax County was putting farm land into conservation land banks. Citizen groups and business groups filed civil suits alleging discrimination and preferential treatment.

Putting farm land in land banks resulted in decreased revenues from business and increased taxes to citizens. Hopefully our county is not doing that.
