Letter to the Editor: Kudos for Memorial Day service coverage

Editor:

Thank you to the Northern Virginia Daily and correspondent Sam Taff for reporting on the Memorial Day service held by American Legion Post No. 77 at Riverview Cemetery.

It was wonderful to see the color guard's photo and the story on the front page. Strasburg Mayor Tim Taylor gave an excellent and meaningful speech. Hopefully, this coverage will encourage more people to participate in future remembrance services.

I live in Winchester now, but Strasburg always will be my home. I am currently president of Shenandoah Unit No. 77, the American Legion Auxiliary. Strasburg Post No. 77 and Unit No. 77 have been a passion of our family since I was old enough to remember.

I also would like to thank the wonderful people of Strasburg for giving so generously to our annual memorial poppy distribution this past weekend. I also would like to thank the local business establishments that allowed our unit members to stand in front of their businesses for this project. All funds collected are used by Unit No. 77 for our veteran's programs. The Strasburg community can be proud of how supportive it was!

Virginia Heishman Taylor, Winchester
