Editorial: Keep your senses on high alert

Children walking to and from their bus stops are being seen more frequently lately as school divisions open their doors for the new year.

Frederick County public schools opened on Monday, and Warren County welcomed students back to school on Wednesday. Shenandoah County students have until next Tuesday to enjoy the last days of the fair and their summer vacation.

With more children on the roads, drivers need to expect the unexpected while driving through school zones each morning and afternoon.

Obey the posted speed limit and laws concerning stopping for school buses, and keep your senses on high alert. You never know when a child may dodge out into the road, or a vehicle in front of you makes a sudden stop.

Keep our children safe.
