Letter to the Editor: Alaskans are living on the dole
Bill O’Reilly’s column on Aug. 19 — Last frontier a chilly place for the president — was interesting. In it he writes of Alaska and its scenery, “but it is the spirit of rugged individualism that I found most interesting. Capitalism is firmly embraced, and hard work is the order of the day … This is America the way it used to be.”
The description that Mr. O’Reilly gives does not, in my opinion, reflect the state that receives more federal money relative to paid income tax. Each citizen of Alaska, in 2010, received $15,197 in federal dollars, more than any other state. My, sounds to me like folks there are living on the dole.
