Letter to the Editor: If you have nothing nice to say...

Editor:

OK, I'll take the bait that Roy Mullins and the Daily have dangled for we drug addicts, thugs and bums who live in the quaint and seemingly friendly town of Front Royal with all of its fake charms.

I must admit that when I first read Mullins' Oct. 5 diatribe, I was reminded of the jaw of the ass that Samson used to slay 1,000 Philistines. However, unlike the words in our blessed Bible (that we impoverished cling so faithfully onto along with our guns) your words ring foolishly and with no bite, so to speak.

I wonder if you put as much thought into your letter to the editorial as you did in picking up and moving your family to our fair town with its swollen underbelly. I suppose if we all made such important decisions by simply driving our vehicles up and down Main Street we would be a much more decisive although probably dysfunctional society.

You mention drugs and thugs rampant on our streets without giving any examples. You speak of our poverty level without offering any comparisons. You say the majority of our residents are on government assistance and give no statistics. You speak of us not knowing how to be productive members of society without offering any of your sage wisdom on how to go about doing so. You accuse our successful business owners of corruption without offering one shred of evidence. Not one.

I am sorry that you didn't get to make your millions off the backs of we ignorant ne'er do wells, but perhaps you should exercise your Constitutional rights and move back to that great land of milk and honey from whence you came. I assure you that somehow we will stumble on, even without the great lessons in civic responsibility that you could have freely and no doubt graciously given. I do wish you well in your endeavors and hope that if you could stoop to learn one thing from us misfits and losers it is this: "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." Thanks for your time.

Michael Dick, Front Royal
