Letter to the Editor: Ordinance cuts into store's advertising effort
The town of Strasburg has recently written an ordinance which allows me to use only 50 percent of my store frontage for displaying of merchandise. Unfortunately, I have no control over the town's decisions.
I have been in business in this town for over 20 years and have been using the majority of my store frontage for the displaying of merchandise the entire time. Outdoor displaying of merchandise and "word of mouth" has been over 99 percent of my advertising in all these years, so I realize how important this is.
I consider myself lucky to have had so many loyal customers over the years and I know a lot of them originally came into my shop because they noticed my outdoor display of merchandise, which is also how I attract a lot of customers traveling through this town from the northern Virginia area and even other states.
I can only hope that one day we have people running our town who actually are looking out for the best interests of the businesses that we have in this town, their own citizens or even for their own employees.
I know I would never start up a new business in this town the way things are now. It takes all I have to stay here now, but I have been here so long and I do have so many good customers, and I would like them to know that I appreciate their business and I do care about them.
