Today is Election Day.
Polling places are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Are you prepared to go to the polls?
Before heading out, make sure you know your polling location -- find it here: https://www.vote.virginia.gov -- and that you have an acceptable form of identification -- find that here: http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/VotinginPerson.html.
You do not have to have a photo ID this year -- that comes into play next July. The law was signed this past May, but does not take effect until July 1.
If you don't have an acceptable ID to present at the polls today, you will be given a provisional ballot that you will need to fill out and return to the local electoral board by noon Friday. For more information on provisional ballots, visit http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/VotinginPerson.html.
If you are registered to vote, we encourage you to do your part as a good citizen and cast your ballot in local and state elections today. Just make sure you know where your polling place is located and take proper ID so that you can walk out with an "I voted" sticker on your jacket.
