Editorial: Stage set for exciting run in the 10th

For the first time in more than 30 years, voters in Virginia's 10th District will not see Frank Wolf's name on the ballot on Election Day.

Wolf announced Tuesday that he would not be seeking re-election next year to the seat he has held for 34 years.

The veteran lawmaker says he plans to spend his time out of office working for religious freedom and human rights.

With Wolf in retirement, that sets up what we predict will be an exciting race to watch next year in a district that covers much of the D.C. suburbs in Northern Virginia and stretches west to the apple orchards in Frederick County. It will mean that Virginia will lose a senior lawmaker at the federal level. But could it also mean that the Democrats can reclaim the seat lost in 1980 when Wolf defeated Joseph L. Fisher?

One thing is for sure, political analysts will have plenty to talk about in Virginia next year.
