Letter to the Editor: Screen people for free health care

Here we are in the year 2014 and I'm looking at the way the health care system is handing out free medical care to people who are eligible to work but won't. What about all the elderly people who barely get by on what little they make? They still have to pay for visits to doctors.

I think our government should step back and look again at what taxpayers are paying for all this.

Someone needs to screen all these people and and see that they are truly eligible for free health care. I will admit jobs aren't that easy to find, but there are all kinds of jobs out there. It's just that nobody wants to make less than $20 per hour anymore.

Earl Irvine, Woodstock
