Letter to the Editor: States need to convene

Editor:

Thank you for the piece by Cal Thomas titled "Not getting what we all paid for" in the Jan. 2 edition of the Northern Virginia Daily. I agree that our tax code is completely out of control, along with our "federal overseers."

I do believe, however, we have another option instead of watching the Obamacare goose-stepping train-wreck march along, managed by the ever so compassionate IRS, as we wait for the next two elections. I am tired of waiting. Our founders also knew that there would need to be changes along the way to preserve the original vision of the Constitution. To this end they included Article V of the Constitution, which reads...

"The Congress ...on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments."

The modern translation is... when two thirds of the states (34) want to get together and propose changes, they can.

There is a move afoot to convene a convention of states to address the many grievances of the people that Washington D.C., has refused to acknowledge, not just recently, but going back many decades. We have many problems that the ruling monarchy is not inclined to address as it would upset the status quo. It is clear that this insanity cannot continue. Let's not continue doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results.
