Editorial: No tobacco in drugstores makes sense

When you walk into your local CVS Caremark drugstore next October to get a flu shot or fill a prescription, one thing you won't see there anymore are tobacco products. The nationwide chain announced Wednesday that it is phasing out sales of cigarettes and other tobacco products at its stores.

The Food and Drug Administration reports that tobacco products kill 480,000 people in the United States each year. This move by CVS absolutely makes sense. How can any company that wants to be known for health care sell something so harmful as cigarettes?

We hope we will see other stores with pharmacies follow suit.
