Mike Wakeman's letter of July 22 was exactly right. What were the members of the Shenandoah County School Board thinking? Oh yeah - as usual, they weren't.
They complained they didn't get enough money for school maintenance and then they give the superintendent a $6,000 raise before he has proven himself. This fits real well into their mantra of "It's all about the kids."
It also shows the poor judgment of the four members of the Board of Supervisors who approved the school budget and failed to designate how the money would be spent (as state code allows).
Replacements on both boards are needed.
