Letter to the Editor: We need to take a stand for what is right
This letter is prompted by the message from the pulpit in a church on June 29 before our celebration of July 4th. The pastor, early in his message, asked the question, "Is America the bearer of the cross?"
He brought up a little of a news report on CNN that was aired in April. The second in command of al-Qaida made a statement, and I quote: "We must illuminate the cross. America is the bearer of the cross." Our enemies understand this, so why can't we? He stated if we remove the cross from America, America is doomed.
The minister went on say it is up to us Christians to take our country back by fervent prayer from around the nation. It is very clear that Washington can't and won't if we simply sit back and let things go on as usual. This is not doom and gloom but I hope it will be a wake-up call for us all.
In my opinion too many pastors are preaching to please the crowd and get numbers up. Just smile and be positive and everything will be OK, they say. Jesus himself was not preaching to be popular, so why are they trying to please the crowd? It is OK to be positive but also take a stand for what is right.
Look at all the powerful countries that have fallen since the beginning of time. There were many and when the moral fiber went down, the nations followed that path. Remove God and nothing is left but failure.
Let us all be brave enough to step up and take a stand that will give our children and grandchildren a land to be proud of. Get involved, don't wait on someone else. If it is to be, it is up to me. In closing, the land of the free and home of the brave has become those brave enough not to work get a free ride.
