Letter to the Editor: Suicide is a public health issue

Editor:

We listen. We care. We are Concern Hotline.

We strongly believe that suicide is a public health issue and it takes the community to save lives. Concern Hotline is here to listen.

Concern is a free 24/7/365 anonymous crisis and suicide intervention hotline, serving the Northern Shenandoah Valley. We are staffed by a caring community of volunteers in Winchester.

Unfortunately, crisis can affect anyone at a moment's notice and its story is unique with each individual. Our trained volunteers are respectful, nonjudgmental, compassionate and confidential listeners. It is our mission to do all we can to prevent suicide, and to provide support and care for those at risk.

Those who are in crisis or if they are concerned about the safety and well-being of another individual, know that community support is only a call away.

Concern Hotline numbers are:

  • Winchester/Frederick/Clarke County: 540-667-0145
  • Warren County: 540-635-4357
  • Shenandoah County: 540-459-4742
  • Page County: 540-743-3733

Krystel Camilo, Concern Hotline Inc. program director/volunteer coordinator
