Letter to the Editor: School club thanks sponsors, volunteers
On behalf of the Strasburg High School Interact Club, I would like to personally thank all those who participated, sponsored and volunteered during our first annual “Move For Meals” 5K Color Run that was held this past Saturday.
This was the first of many major community events for our club, which is in its inaugural year. The benefactor of our event was Stop Hunger Now, an international organization that provides packaged meals for individuals in impoverished and disaster-stricken regions domestically as well as abroad. With the money our event raised, we will be able to provide 1,600-plus meals for this wonderful organization.
Later this year, our Interact Club will join with other Interact and Rotary clubs across the region to package these meals to be sent out to individuals in need.
For those not familiar with Interact, it is an organization sponsored by local Rotary Clubs to give students a chance to make a real difference. Interact clubs work on two service projects each year. One project helps a school or community, and the other promotes international understanding.
Without the generous support of local businesses, the participation of the community, and the volunteers from the Strasburg High School Interact Club, our event would not have been a success. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to these individuals for contributing to the success of our event and the mission of Stop Hunger Now. We look forward to sponsoring many more community events and involving as many people as possible to have the greatest impact in our community and the world.
Austin Weaver, Strasburg
Strasburg High School Interact Club co-president
