Letter to the editor: All scripture given by inspiration of God
I feel compelled to respond to Gene Rigelon’s letter in last week’s Northern Virginia Daily.
His statement, “God did not inspire or write the Bible” is easily disproved. The second book of Timothy, Chapter 3 and Verse 16 says: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God.”
Rigelon says the Bible was written by fallible scientifically ignorant human beings who thought the earth was flat, the sun orbited the earth and women were the property of men. As for me, I would rather be scientifically ignorant than burn in hell for eternity. Mark 3:29 says: “But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.”
I challenge Rigelon to invest some time in reading any/all of Lee Strobel’s books. Strobel was a self-proclaimed atheist who worked so hard trying to prove there was no God that he became a born-again Christian!
Strobel holds a master of studies in law degree from Yale Law School as well as a journalism degree from the University of Missouri. His awards include Illinois’s highest honors for both investigative reporting and public service journalism from United Press International.
When his wife announced to him that she had become a Christian, he thought she had lost her mind. Setting aside his self-interest and prejudices as best he could, he read books, interviewed experts, asked questions, analyzed history, explored archaeology, studied ancient literature and, for the first time in his life, picked apart the Bible verse by verse.
