Letter to the Editor: Budget shortfall is a ‘disaster number’

I am writing this in response to the Northern Virginia Daily article concerning the budget shortfall in Warren County. Board Chairman Richard Traczyk is absolutely correct in calling the shortfall a “disaster number.”
When faced with a multimillion dollar shortfall such as the county finds itself, who in their right mind would authorize pay raises? This is certainly not being fiscally responsible stewards of the public’s hard-earned money.
The county needs to live within its means — equalize the tax rate in step with the recent higher property assessments — and find somewhere else to cut expenses to close this budget shortfall. Disaster indeed!
