Letter to the Editor: We must recapture our birthright

I had intended to write a letter about why, instead of state Sen. Mark Obenshain, we should elect April Moore who, like Hillary, is a grandmother with two eyes and a brain.  Instead, I find myself writing a “thank you” letter to the Northern Virginia Daily.
First of all, thank you for publishing my letter about Sen. McCain.  During his failed presidential campaign, I learned more about the gentleman than I really needed to know.
Secondly, thank you for Andy Schmookler’s column on “What’s taking over America,” and who can say it better than April’s husband.  His description of an America ruled by a “corporate system” is downright scary.  At least socialism attempts to look after people, even if we might not like the limited choices.  Andy’s direct quote from the Citizens United decision “We now conclude that independent expenditures, including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption” was absolutely astounding to me, as was his reference to Joseph Stiglitz’s writings about “a secret corporate takeover.”  And let us not even talk about the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Somehow, we the people, grandmothers and all, must pick up the pieces and recapture our birthright that was handed down from the Founding Fathers.  Again, thank you, and keep up the good work!
