Letter to the Editor: Positive things underway right here in the valley
In a world where we are bombarded with so much negative news almost every minute it is so refreshing to see a positive ray of hope every now and then. Oftentimes it is right under our nose and we fail to notice the good things that are going on.
First of all, let me say God is not sitting in heaven wringing his hands wondering what to do next, nor is he intimidated by what is going on. Disappointed maybe, as he was with the Israelites but he has a plan and he will fulfill it in his own time.
From the pulpit recently the pastor drew an imaginary circle with his foot and said, “this is where the change starts, meaning it starts right here with me and you. Maybe we can’t change the whole world but we can change our small circle.”
Everything has to start in the mind of one person and then it spreads from there. I do not know the complete story about the first topic but we can assume an organization called Family Promise started this way and it is growing. This group of people has set out to help the homeless in such a positive way. It will help them get gainful employment and get people off the system of government handouts and be productive.
Another very positive thing is right here in Strasburg at 239 E. King St. An individual had a dream of reaching out to our youth and it, too, is up and running. It is a nonprofit organization where people can work out with a Christian atmosphere at no charge. It was a huge success immediately. If you know of young people who need a positive influence, I personally recommend it. The building is rent free at this time and ran by donations only. The person running it gives God all the credit.
If these people can do it, we call can. If it is to be, it is up to me, let us follow the example.
Earl Cutlip, Strasburg
