Letter to the Editor: Candidate has many years of experience
The office of clerk of court is an elected position that we, in Shenandoah County, will be voting on this Tuesday.
The primary responsibilities of the clerk of court include overseeing administrative matters of the circuit court, as well as probating wills, recording deeds, and issuing marriage licenses, hunting licenses, and concealed weapons permits. This is a big job, and if you have ever been into this office to look up a public record, such as a deed, you’ve probably seen that the process is cumbersome and complicated. You’ve likely had to ask for help. Often, these matters are private, and you would prefer to be able to look up the information on your own, but it is too difficult. There are some inexpensive things that could be done to improve the public’s experience and privacy in this office, such as posted instructions to aid in researching records, and a private area to complete personal documents, such as marriage licenses.
Tammy Heishman has 17 years of experience in the court system, including roles in all three divisions, the general district, juvenile and domestic, and the circuit court. Ten of these years have been in management. Ms. Heishman is intimately knowledgeable about the challenges in the clerk’s office, and has concrete ideas on how to correct them. As clerk of court, she will be visible, accessible, and accountable to the residents of Shenandoah County.
Personally, Tammy Heishman is one of the most reliable and hardworking people I know. I hope she has the opportunity to put her experience, knowledge, and ideas to work for us, the residents of Shenandoah County.
