Letter to the Editor: Thoughts on Michael Barone’s column

Editor:

In his Nov 10 column on “speech codes,” Michael Barone might have made his point better by reducing the argument to the absurd.  Consider the preamble of the Constitution. We can start with the word “ordain.” It has religious connotations, so why don’t we dump it?

Next, we can rape the word “welfare.” Everyone should pull his own weight, shouldn’t they? And we can deep-six “Constitution,” replacing it with “law.”

And we can top it all off by getting rid of words, “We the people,” replacing them with the words, “The government.” This chaos can only be the product of the incompetent.
