Letter to the Editor: Retired, living on a fixed income
Editor:
I have discovered that I am one of the few whose real estate reappraisal has increased, not decreased, as local news media so stated.
Our house is only 1,500 square feet on a 3/4-acre lot and has increased by more than 10 percent, and the lot it is on has increased by 15 percent. In addition, I have a vacant lot adjoining this property that has increased by nearly 30 percent. I appeared before the panel that hears complaints from landowners who wish to protest such increases. Appeal denied.
And now it appears that the tax rate will increase between 3 to 5 cents per hundred. I have notified my new board member, Mr. Walker, of this sometime ago but have heard nothing from him.
I don’t wish to use the time-worn phrase, “I am retired and live on a fixed income,” but it applies.
