Letter to the Editor: Statues removed for good reason

Editor:

Bill Wine’s recent letter to the editor motivates me to reply.

His comment about the removal of confederate statues being  a “smear campaign against leaders of America’s past in an effort to somehow mitigate injustices from the past” is laughable.  That is not what is going on.

What is being removed is the present day glorification of the traitorous leaders of a treasonous group of Southern white land owners.  Remember, they went to war with the United States of America in order to keep slave labor camps as the major economic engine of these wealthy land owners.

They were the terrorists of their day.  They started the war solely to keep slavery alive and well.  Nothing about what they did should be glorified today.
