Letter to the Editor: How will plant keep Strasburg quaint?

Editor:

I am writing in response to the announcement of the asphalt plant that wants to build in Strasburg’s industrial park near surrounding neighborhoods.

There are many reasons why we do not want a toxic plant near our homes, but one thing I want to inform people who have not gone to the town meetings is that they told us they are only hiring four or five people. We have not been told if these will be seasonal part time positions or not. Back in May 2011, the town did not approve a Popeye’s and a Papa John’s because they did not fit in with the quaint small town atmosphere of Strasburg, yet now they are considering an asphalt company? How is that going to keep Strasburg quaint?

We want this asphalt company to succeed but not near our neighborhoods.
