Letter to the Editor: When did we lose our compassion?

Editor:

The proposed Trumpcare bill treats the poor and the elderly with disdain while providing even more tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
When as a nation did we lose our compassion for our fellow man and woman? Was it when Donald Trump became president after his disrespectful and vulgar statements about women, minorities, and the disabled were ignored by his supporters, or have we always been this uncaring and only under Trump’s so-called leadership do we feel free to show our hatred for others who are not like us?
Every single American must keep in mind that the need for effective health care coverage is only a stroke, a heart attack or a serious car accident away for you. The proposed Trumpcare legislation has devastating cuts to Medicaid, which will affect my brother who went to bed with a bad headache at age 21, had a stroke that night and has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since. He is now 61 years old. He relies solely on Medicaid and this bill would take away that coverage. I am not wealthy enough to cover his huge medical costs.

Whether you believe in God’s will, fate or luck, please keep in mind that a situation like my brother’s can happen to you or your family member and Trumpcare will ignore your needs. We should all be ashamed.
