Letter to the Editor: Changes could eliminate holidays
I have been amused by the sudden “push” to take down statues – the latest is apparently one of Christopher Columbus.
If statues are removed, then, I believe, we must eliminate certain holidays from the calendar. Hence, no more Columbus Day. Think of other holidays named in honor of historical figures and holidays related to them: Lee-Jackson; King Day, which will be on Jan. 12; Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15. It could go on and on.
If we removed these statues and these holidays disappear, guess what? It’s back to work, folks. I guess maybe four-day holidays might become a thing of the past.
