Letter to the Editor: Shields’ column is petty

Editor:

I thought the Mark Shields article, “It’s called the Democratic Party,” was somewhat petty.

Really? Is this what we waste space in the newspaper to write about? Nitpicking about the name “Democrat” vs. “Member of the “Democratic Party” seems like a silly complaint.

In the article, he referred to the television station “PBS News Hour” instead of “Public Broadcasting Station News Hour.” What does the “GOP” president in the article mean? Can everyone who reads this know what he’s talking about? I doubt it. Who really cares anyway?

Nicknames, acronyms, initials and shortcuts, including text misspellings, have been in the English language for years. Here’s one for you: GR (get real)!
