Letter to the Editor: There’s only one way to get a Congress that will act
Jennifer Lewis and Tim Kaine will work for all of us. Sen. Kaine has an admirable and well-documented legislative and personal history. Jennifer Lewis will bring principled, open and intelligent representation to us in the 6th Congressional District.
Jennifer has spent decades improving lives. Raised on a diary farm, she understands the agricultural foundation of our district and the hardship caused by tariffs. Jennifer understands valley families’ need for comprehensive and affordable health care, including mental health care. She knows the very rich should be paying more in taxes, not getting tax cuts while leaving the bills for our grandkids. She has been fighting for years against destructive pipelines and for energy production that creates less harm and more good. A changing climate is one of the most important issues we face, and Jennifer Lewis will continue her long documented fight to mitigate its damages and ensure a viable future for humanity.
This country is in crisis due to a man in the White House who governs by Twitter. He is aided and abetted by a compliant, GOP-led Congress. We voters must demand that Congress exercise its role as a check on the lies, outrages, and instability of the executive branch. There is only one way we will get a Congress that will act. We vote blue on Nov. 6.
We have had decades of a do-nothing GOP representative, a person who has refused to meet face-to-face with constituents and who is enabling an Administration to govern by chaos. A vote for Ms. Lewis’ GOP counterpart, a protégée and friend of that representative, is a vote for more of the same – a disregard for the needs of the 6th while undermining the institutions of our republic.
We can and must do better. On Nov. 6, we must vote like our future and the future of this country depends on it, because it does.
