Letter to the Editor: Transparency in government needed
As a nation, we see that transparency in government is almost nonexistent. Many politicians claim to be transparent in their actions, but recent events prove otherwise. Regardless of political party, we must demand accountability from our elected officials. We must have each person we elect record their votes. We should not accept legislators voting “present” or not voting the way they promised. We should be assured they vote as they promised.
Here in Virginia’s 6th District, we have a congressional candidate who is not afraid to have his voice counted. Ben Cline worked hard to end unrecorded voice votes in the Virginia General Assembly. Now, thanks to Ben Cline’s efforts, Virginia voters can know who supported or killed each piece of legislation.
I appreciate Ben’s efforts in the Virginia General Assembly. More transparency in our government is needed.
