FRONT ROYAL – The Doc is in – in need of a new home that is. Doc is a male domestic shorthair cat living at the Human Society of Warren County. He’s just about 5 years old and is looking for a forever family, and a scratch behind the ears.

Dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes showed up to the Blue Ridge Dog Training Club’s Agility Trials on Friday to navigate an obstacle course as fast as possible.

Local dog a true survivor

Jenny and Ben Williams, of Stephens City, sit with their dog Ciaphas outside Ben's parents' home in Woodstock on Thursday. The couple's townhouse was destroyed by fire on June 12 while they were away, and Ciaphas managed to rescue himself from his kennel and run out the front door of the home. Cat owners should consider tracking and odor issues when considering what type of cat litter to purchase, said Dr. Deborah Carleton, of Colony Animal Hospital in Winchester. Tracking refers to how much of the litter sticks to cats’ paws as they meander in and out of their box, and odor refers to the stench that comes with urine and excrement.

FRONT ROYAL – Tonto, a 2-year-old non-neutered male pit bull, is looking for a loving home. Tonto has been living at the Humane Society of Warren County after his previous owners were forced to surrender him due to a lack of space, explained Teresa Denny, a kennel attendant at the shelter.

Angelina has paid it forward in her time at the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter. Now she’s hoping for a new owner to return the favor and take her to a loving home.

Lost dog found safe

Mary Ann Sellers, of Middletown, holds Savannah, a German shepherd pit bull mix, who was found Monday after a vehicle crash on May 27 at the Cedar Creek bridge near Strasburg. Savannah, a 6-year-old pit bull German shepherd mix rescue, was rescued yet again after 11 days on the loose thanks in part to efforts from Middletown resident MaryAnn Sellers, who took over the search after efforts from a professional dog tracker were unsuccessful.
