Apple & Pear Scones

Serves 8

2 ½ c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
¼ c. plus 1T. sugar
¼ c. packed brown sugar
½ c. cold butter or margarine
½ c. diced Golden Delicious Apples
½ c. diced Bosc pear
2/3 c. buttermilk
cinnamon/sugar mixture (optional)

Preheat oven 375 degrees. In bowl, add first 6 ingredients. Blend with pastry blender - cut in butter until coarse crumbs form. Stir in fruit and buttermilk till dough holds together. Transfer dough to ungreased cookie sheet. Shape into 9" round. With floured knife, cut round into 8 wedges. Sprinkle with remaining sugar/cinnamon mixture. Allow ½ " between each. Bake 22-28 minutes until golden.
