Oatmeal Cake

1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1 1/2 sticks butter
1 3/4 c. hot water
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
Topping:
3/4 c. evaporated milk
6 T. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
1 1/2 c. coconut
3 tsp. vanilla extract
Combine oatmeal, butter and hot water together. Let stand for 20 minutes. Add the remaining cake ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour into a greased 9X13 pan. Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
Topping: Heat first 3 ingredients together until butter is melted. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Spread on hot cake. Put in oven under broiler for 1-2 minutes.
