Irish Apple Cake

1/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg beaten
4 Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled
and diced (2 c.)
1/4 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. flour

Preheat oven to 350ยบ. Generously grease an 8 inch square cake pan. In a large bowl, cream butter and bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light browned and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then un-mold and serve hot or cold with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
