1 ¾ c. flour
Sift flour, measure and resift again with baking powder. Cream butter thoroughly. Add sugar and continue creaming until well mixed. Mix in well beaten egg and add vanilla. Stir in sifted dry ingredients in 2 or 3 portions until dough is just smooth. Refrigerate dough for a couple of hours. Roll out dough to 1/8 inch thick. Use cookie cutter in shapes needed. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet, in a moderate oven at 350 degrees, 6-8 mins. or until light golden brown (soft when you take them out of the oven). Let cookies cool before removing from sheet. Place on wire rack.
