Guns and Moses
In Valley Station, Ky., Pastor Ken Pagano of the New Bethel Church has instituted an "Open Carry Celebration." The church is now 'open' to 'carrying' firearms into the church's 'celebration.' Celebration of what? The only celebration I see is celebrating the hard-nosed, red-necked "American" ego. This has no place in a Christian celebration of God's love. It has no place in ANY Christian celebration, or Jewish celebration, or Buddhist celebration, or Unitarian celebration, or ANY celebration of Life in God's name. I doubt that even an atheist meeting would honor such an idea! http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=7759358
Too many Americans have become confused. There have been responses to President Obama's statement that "America is not a Christian nation." Correct, we are NOT a Christian nation. It never was intended to be a Christian nation. Read the Constitution. But the argument stands: If America is a Christian nation, then how can one possibly justify arms-bearing, fear-mongering, and racism? Christianity is a religion of peace (no matter how history reads). It is a philosophy of love and compassion. In practice, it respects all people, for all souls are children of the one God, our divine parent, the source of all of life. There is no room for racism or discrimination of ANY kind. America is a mother who welcomes all peoples into the fold, creating a diverse family who are meant to blend together to create a dynamic, energetic nation with the creative power to change the world, for the better.
But I guess we cannot expect selfish, narrow minds to embrace the beauty of democracy, which ought to demonstrate the best of all religions - love one another, respect one another - we are all riding in the same space ark, Earth - we are all connected.
Proud to bring arms to a Christian celebration? Shame on you!
