All-Area Football Team: Offense


QB -- Matt Sherfey, Central -- The junior led the area in passing, throwing for more than 1,800 yards and 16 touchdowns for the six-win Falcons. In the season finale against Luray, Sherfey threw for 104 yards and a touchdown, while adding another on the ground in a 30-14 win.

RB -- Sam Shiley, Clarke County -- Shiley was a force on an Eagles offense that put up more than 40 points in 10 of 11 games. The senior tailback finished with 36 rushing touchdowns and more than 2,000 total yards of offense, while adding three interceptions at the corner position.

RB -- Cliff Woodard, Skyline -- One of three running backs to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark this season, Woodard accumulated 1,434 yards for the Hawks. The senior averaged seven yards a carry and rushed for 13 touchdowns while racking up 278 receiving yards on 21 receptions, three of which went for scores.

RB -- Brock Lockhart, James Wood -- Lockhart was the top rusher in the area in both carries and yards, taking the ball 297 times on the ground and rushing for more than 2,000 yards. The senior also finished second among tailbacks for 20 touchdowns.

WR -- Dalton Boyd, Sherando -- Playing on a defensive-minded team, Boyd shined for the Warriors at the wide receiver position. Boyd pulled down 29 catches for 646 yards and seven touchdowns. His most impresive stat was the 23.3 yards per catch, tops in the area.

WR -- David Carter, Handley -- Tied with Dalton Boyd on the TD list with seven, Carter had 450 receiving yards on 25 catches. His contributions helped lead Handley to the Group AA state semifinals, and also earned him a spot on the Northwestern District All-District First Team.

TE/WR -- Sean Semones, Central -- While Matt Sherfey led a strong air attack for the Falcons, Semones emerged as his top target. Only a sophomore, Semones led the area with 33 receptions and had 615 yards to go along with his six scores.

OL -- Stephen Spence, James Wood -- Spence helped pave the way for teammate Brock Lockhart and guided the Colonels to a spot in the Region II semifinals. The 5-foot-11 senior also was a first-team all-district pick.

OL -- Damian Tomblin, Clarke County -- As one of seven Clarke County starters named to the Bull Run District First Team offense, Tomblin anchored the Eagle offensive line that helped Clarke County put up 515 points. Tomblin was also a force on defense, registering 54 tackles and a sack.

OL -- Michael Warr, Millbrook
-- Warr was one of two Millbrook linemen to earn a spot on the Northwestern District All-District First Team, helping the Pioneer offense which averaged 277 total yards a game during the regular season.

OL -- Derek Dowrey, Handley -- Continuing the trend of Northwestern District All-District First Team linemen, Dowrey is one of four Judges to make the First Team offense. The sophomore helped lead the Judges to a perfect 10-0 record during the regular season.

OL -- Alex Nickens, Skyline -- Nickens was a beast on the offensive line for Skyline this season. At 6 feet, Nickens guided the Hawks to more than 2,300 yards on the ground.

K -- Graham Sharples, Handley -- Sharples was a steady option for Handley this season. The kicker connected on 35 extra points and added eight field goals for the Judges.

RS -- Jordan Hartman, Millbrook -- At just 5-foot-6, 155 pounds, Hartman was difficult for opponents to bring down on special teams. Hartman also added five touchdowns and 984 yards at the running back position.

    WR/TE -- Not saying that the players selected here shouldn't be recognized. They all had awesome seasons. I would like to see you find a true tight end and not Wide Receivers in the slot -- Not that difficult. A Tight End protects the QB, blocks for RB's and makes the occasional catch for a first down, TD and extra points. Lets find a few of these guys and we'll have a complete all star team.
