Junior Greg Van Sickler has been named a preseason All-American by D3baseball.com in selections announced Monday by the Web site.
Van Sickler, a pitcher/first baseman, is a first-team selection as a utility player.
Last season, Van Sickler led the Hornets to a 38-10 record and a NCAA Division III South Region championship by hitting .411 with a school-record 20 doubles and 66 RBIs while also going 9-2 with a 2.69 ERA on the mound.
In addition to helping the team into the Division III national championships, Van Sickler was an All-USA South, All-South Region and third-team ABCA All-American as well as being selected as the Virginia State Sports Information Directors College Division Player of the Year.
In postseason play, Van Sickler earned all-tournament honors at the USA South Tournament, the Salisbury Regional and the national championships.
He is the first Shenandoah player to earn preseason All-America honors.
The Hornets started practice last week and open the 2010 season on Feb. 13 with two games in the USA South/ODAC Challenge.
