DUMFRIES -- The long snow-induced layoff seemed to have little effect on Randolph-Macon Academy's girls basketball team on Thursday, as the Yellow Jackets downed Pope John Paul the Great 49-29 to finish with the program's first-ever unbeaten regular season.
R-MA (15-0), which had not played since Feb. 1, grabbed an early 14-8 lead before Pope John Paul rallied to forge a 22-22 halftime tie.
In the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets broke away by outscoring the hosts 13-2. Kalie Plasier (16 points, six rebounds, three steals) had six points during that pivotal third quarter for R-MA.
Anastasia Voellm added 13 points, six assists and four steals for the Yellow Jackets. Ashley McManus chipped in nine points, 13 rebounds and six steals, and Allyson McManus had five points, four rebounds and five steals in the win. R-MA finished with 21 steals.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Thursday when they host Quantico in the Delaney Athletic Conference tournament semifinals.
