Roundup: King carries Wildcats to victory

Daily Staff Reports - sports@nvdaily.com

WOODSTOCK -- Warren County's Nicole King struck out 17 and helped herself at the plate to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 non-district softball win over Central on Wednesday. It was the season opener for both teams.

King struck out the first 10 batters she faced and had a bloop RBI single in the top of third for the Wildcats. Taylor Bass followed with a two-run homer to give Warren County some cushion. King allowed no walks in picking up the win.

"Last year when we played them it was no score through seven innings and then we lost 2-1 in the eighth," Warren County coach Justin Stock said. "I think we have more experience and we were able to finish the job this time."

Loudoun County 3, James Wood 0

WINCHESTER -- Visiting Loudoun County downed the host Colonels 3-0 in the season opener for both teams on Wednesday.

James Wood managed just two hits, singles by Erin McCarthy and Whitney Dennis. It wasn't enough to back starting pitcher Lauren Myers, who took the loss after fanning four batters while allowing four runs (one earned) in four innings. McCarthy finished up with three innings of no-hit relief.
