Van Dusseldorp sets HR record
Daily Staff Report WINCHESTER - Senior Scott Van Dusseldorp became the all-time home runs leader at Shenandoah on Wednesday as the Hornets dispatched Dickinson 17-7 in a non-league contest. Shenandoah (34-7) ended the contest in the bottom of the eighth on the NCAA mercy rule when it increased the margin to 10 runs over the Red Devils (7-25). Van Dusseldorp, who was named as the USA South Conference Player of the Year last week, crushed a fifth-inning fastball from Dickinson starter Matt Vidal over the wall in left-center for a grand slam to break the record previously held by Jeremy Schutt. Van Dusseldorp now has 29 career home runs. The homer was the final hit that Vidal (0-1) allowed for Dickinson. SU pounded Vidal for 14 runs on 12 hits in five innings and batted around in the first and fifth. Keeton Neeb went 4-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs, a double and scored four runs for the Hornets. Copyright © The Northern Virginia Daily | nvdaily.com | 152 N.
