Hawks rally for win

FRONT ROYAL -- On Senior day, Skyline seniors Julie Shifflett and Chelsea Albanese came up big to lead the Hawks past Millbrook, 3-2, in Northwestern District softball action on Thursday. The win sets up a one-game playoff for the regular season title today with Sherando. The game will be played at 5 p.m. at Millbrook.

Shifflett and Albanese each had a single in the bottom of the seventh for the Hawks (14-6, 7-1 Northwestern). Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, Skyline's Taylor Henry reached on an error with one out. Shifflett singled scoring pinch-runner Ashley Thomas to tie the game 2-2 and Shifflett took second on the throw to the plate. Albanese followed with a bloop single scoring pinch-runner Allison Funk for the game-winning run. Sabrie Neeb had the Hawks' only other hit.

"It was good to see the girls battle back and put some hits together after being down," Skyline coach Richard Armstrong said.

Eagles 8, Panthers 0

WASHINGTON, Va. -- Aubrey Fletcher and Brogan Jones each had a hat trick and an assist to lead Clarke County past Rappahanock County in its Bull Run District season finale. The second-seeded Eagles will play on Tuesday at George Mason against the winner of Rappahannock County and Madison County in the tournament semifinals.

Sarah Alger had a goal and an assist and Meredith Roberts had a goal for the Eagles (12-4, 4-2 Bull Run). Morgan Fletcher, Kasey Canterbury and Courtney Butterfass each had an assist for Clarke County. The Eagles outshot the Panthers, 40-5.

Eagles 1, Wildcats 0

BEALETON -- Warren County pitcher Nicole King pitched a no-hitter, struck out 17 batters, yet lost her ninth game of the season.

Warren County had a throwing error to start bottom of the seventh inning to allow a Liberty runner to advance to second. Two wild pitches later, Liberty had the game and the No. 3 seed in the Evergreen District tournament.

Warren County (10-9, 2-6 Evergreen), the tournament's No. 4 seed, will play No. 5 seed Kettle Run at home on Monday.
