STRASBURG -- Strasburg completed its regular season on Wednesday with a 6-1 Bull Run District baseball win over Madison County. The win put the Rams in a tie with George Mason for the regular-season title. The Rams and Mustangs will have a one-game playoff, most likely on Friday, at a site and time to be determined.
Derrick Buckley threw a four-hitter for the Rams on Wednesday. Buckley struck out eight and at one point retired 16 batters in a row. Buckley was also 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. Sheldon Stickley was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Todd Dean went 2-for-4 with a double for the Rams (17-3, 9-1 Bull Run).
Falcons 4, Generals 3
WOODSTOCK -- Central did its part, but will now wait and see what the future holds for them. The Falcons beat Stonewall Jackson in Shenandoah District action, which puts them in the middle of a heated district race. There are more games to be played before the district pairings are announced, but according to coach Donn Foltz the Falcons still have an outside shot of finishing in first.
Sean Semones led the Falcons (7-10, 6-4 Shenandoah) on Wednesday going 3-for-3 with a home run and Juan Troncoso was 1-for-3 with a home run. Kohly Hawkins added a triple for the Falcons. Josh Litten went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Generals.
"It wasn't pretty, but we'll take it," Foltz said. "Any time you play a county rival and come out with a 'W,' you gotta be happy."
Generals 8, Panthers 0
QUICKSBURG -- Stonewall Jackson cruised to a Shenandoah District win over Page County. The game was originally started on May 14, but lightning caused the match to be suspended and resumed on Wednesday.
Caleb Golladay had three goals and an assists and Pat Bain had two goals to lead the Generals (16-0, 10-0 Shenandoah). Juan Luna had one goal and two assists and Dallas Foltz and Emmanuel Vasquez had a goal and an assist for Stonewall Jackson.
Falcons 12, Generals 3
WOODSTOCK -- Hannah Schechtel went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and Brea Hinegardner fell a triple short of the cycle as Central pounded Stonewall Jackson, 12-3. Hinegardner was 3-for-4 in the win and also tossed a complete game. Schechtel also had three RBI and three runs.
Judges 2, Colonels 1
WINCHESTER -- After shutting out Handley through six innings, James Wood committed two errors in the bottom of the seventh, coughing up the lead in a 2-1 loss. Lauren Myers faced 19 batters through six innings, allowing just one hit, while Morgan McCarthy had an RBI single. The two teams will now face off Friday in the district tournament.
