Prep roundup: Cougars shut out Strasburg
Daily Staff Reports
MANASSAS PARK -- Danya Barrera and Bianca Bonilla tallied first-half goals to lead host Manassas Park to a 2-0 victory over fifth-seeded Strasburg in the Bull Run District tournament quarterfinals.
Strasburg coach Jonathan Dodd said his team had its chances, twice hitting the post on shot attempts and missing on a breakaway against the fourth-seeded Cougars.
"It was a pretty even game," Dodd said. "Both teams had about 15 shots. It just didn't go our way tonight."
Goalkeeper Anna Sparacio finished with 15 saves for Strasburg (8-9).
Eagles 7, Panthers 4
WASHINGTON, Va. -- Clarke County overcame a sluggish start before pulling away for a Bull Run District victory over Rapphannock County.
The Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first, but the Eagles settled down and came back with a run in the third and four in the fourth. Helen Good, Amy Hagerdon and Sarah Herndon each went 2-for-4 for the Eagles (14-5, 8-2 Bull Run). Clarke County will play in the Bull Run District semifinals on Wednesday against the winner of Monday's Strasburg-Manassas park quarterfinal. The game will be played at 5 p.m. at Madison County.
