Central advances in girls soccer
Daily Staff Reports LOVINGSTON -- Two goals from Katie Philpott and goals from Katie Bennett and Allison Eye helped propel Central past Nelson County, 4-0, in the Region B girls soccer quarterfinals. Falcons keeper Mirands Morris had 10 saves in the win while Bennett added an assist. Eagles 7, Bison 1 SWOOPE -- Aubrey Fletcher had a hat trick and Meredith Roberts added two goals as Clarke County rolled over Buffalo Gap, 7-1. The Eagles had four goals in the first half, part of a 40-shot barrage against the Bison. Megan Allis and Brianna Harrell added goals in the win.
Falcons 2, Hawks 0 ASHBURN -- Briar Woods' Lacey Jones struck out 19 to lead Briar Woods over Skyline in a Region II quarterfinal. Jullie Shifflett, Casey Henry and Taylor Henry each had a single for the Hawks (15-9). Sarah Beamer struck out nine and walked three in the loss.
MADISON COUNTY -- An RBI double in the sixth inning lifted Madison County over Central on Monday, 1-0. Brea Hindgardner pitched a complete game for the Falcons in the loss. "They have nothing to hang their heads about," coach Jill Yew said. "It's been a long time since Central softball has been the regionals so it was a great season."
