Watching the news about Reggie Bush possibly being stripped of his Heisman Trophy this week gave me an idea. What if some of the previous forecasting champions had also done something illegal?
Maybe there should be an investigation into the pasts of some of the former forecasters. Surely, there must have been some slip-up that one of them had. Something that breaks the official book of forecasting rules (oh yes, I'm sure there is one).
More importantly, there must be something that would cause one of the former champions to be stripped of their title, and maybe that would lead to another championship being awarded to me. After all, you can never have too much bling.
I'm sure former forecaster Mike Kenney must have done something against the bylaws in winning his four titles. Certainly when former champion Mike Osipoff won in his first two attempts, he must have been getting some extra help somewhere. Three years ago, former forecaster Chuck McGill won and I'm still convinced he broke some rules on his way to the title. And of course last year, Jeff Nations won the title. He didn't start the season in the forecast, and there has to be something in the rule book about the season not counting (Once I find that book, I will find the rule).
As a four-time champion myself, I'm proud to say I've never done anything against the rules. Well, actually there was that one time when ... never mind.
On second thought, I won't be searching for any rule book or trying to strip any titles. I'm focused on winning another title, and I have to stay in the now, not think about the past.
Now for this week's picks:
Warren County at Woodgrove
The Wildcats are looking to go to 3-0. The big question is can Gage Steele pick up another 200 yards? It wouldn't surprise me at all.
Warren County 30, Woodgrove 14
Handley at Briar Woods
The Judges have a tough schedule to start the season. The Falcons have a good team, but I can't see the Judges starting off 0-2.
Handley 14, Briar Woods 10
Millbrook at Spotswood
Another tough game for the Pioneers. However, I think they will pick up their first win of the year.
Millbrook 20, Spotswood 17
Washington at Sherando
The Patriots gave James Wood a tough game last week, but I think the Warriors will simply have too much firepower for them.
Sherando 35, Washington 21
Musselman at James Wood
This should be a close game. I think once again, the Colonels defense will be the difference.
James Wood 10, Musselman 7
Skyline at Fauquier
This could be a shootout. The Hawks scored 28 last week in a win over Strasburg, but the Falcons have an explosive offense of their own.
Fauquier 38, Skyline 24
Clarke County at Stonewall Jackson
The Eagles trailed during their game with Hedgesville last week. They won't start off slow this week.
Clarke County 35, Stonewall Jackson 21
Strasburg at Central
Another clash between two Shenandoah County schools. The Falcons will be fired up after their season-opening loss to Manassas Park.
Central 28, Strasburg 14
Miami at Ohio State
This is a battle between two of my favorite teams. The difference is the Buckeyes have Terrelle Pryor and the Hurricanes don't.
Ohio State 31, Miami 27
Cowboys at Redskins
I don't think my Cowboys will be playing at home in the Super Bowl, like many are predicting. However, the Cowboys have more than enough to beat the Redskins.
Cowboys 30, Redskins 21
