QUICKSBURG -- Riverheads continued its dominance of the Shenandoah District as the Gladiators dismantled Stonewall Jackson, 42-3, on Friday night.
Riverheads dominated every phase of the game in the first half. The offense ran for 263 yards while the defense limited the Generals to 43 total yards. Stonewall Jackson ran 25 plays in the first two quarters with 11 resulting in negative yardage. Riverheads scored on its first two possessions to lead 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Daniel Weekley put Riverheads on the board with a 36-yard run. Sam Goodson added the first of four successful extra points in the first half for a 7-0 lead with 10:26 left in the first quarter.
Logan Moore made it 14-0 with an 8-yard run on the next series. The drive covered 65 yards on eight plays.
After a pair of empty possessions, the Riverheads special teams got in the act when Weekley returned a punt 77 yards, making the score 21-0.
Moore showcased his speed late in the half when he turned the corner on a 55-yard touchdown run for a 28-0 Gladiators lead at the half.
Riverheads worked on its passing game in the third quarter as Diehl completed all three of his attempts on a 60-yard scoring drive. Diehl capped the drive with a 23-yard strike to tight end Chuck Prater to give the Gladiators a 35-0 lead.
The Gladiators went to the air again in the fourth quarter when Zach Clymore connected with Prater on a 12-yard pass, making the score 42-0.
The Generals avoided the shutout when Juan Luna Guerrero booted a 45-yard field with 6:50 left in the game, making the score 42-3.
