Warren County to honor '84 team

FRONT ROYAL -- Warren County High School's 1984 state championship softball team will be among the inductees for the school's ninth annual hall of fame ceremony at halftime of the Oct. 15 football game between the Wildcats and Fauquier.

Guided by head coach Bob Mason and assistant coach Michael Whitehouse, the Wildcats finished the 1984 season with a 20-1 record and claimed the Northwestern District, Region II and Group AA state championship titles.

Team members included Susie Allison, Patti Boyd, Page Browning, Tracy Burleson, Tina Cornwell, Cheryl Fox, Marcie Fox, Marcie Gadd, Carolyn Hembry, Lisa Hill, Stephanie Keeler, Susanne Longerbeam, Jan Lowery, Diane O'Bannon, Robin Richardson, Melissa Rudacille and Kelly Tharpe. Team managers were Dawnita Coffman, Melissa Coffman and Lena Spencer.

The 1984 squad joins contributor Alan Wimer (class of 1964) and athletes Michael Ford (class of 1978) and Heidi Moore (class of 1999) in the induction class for the school's Lawrence "Sweeney" Shifflett Athletic Hall of Fame.

Game time for the Oct. 15 matchup is 7 p.m.
