Eagles advance to semifinals in softball

BERRYVILLE -- Clarke County received a big boost from its bench en route to an 8-3 softball victory over Dan River on Monday in a Region B quarterfinal game.
Pinch hitter Kiersten Cochran hit a solo home run, and Chelsea Levi also came off the bench and hit a triple to give the Eagles (15-8) a spark. Olivia Gore and Helen good each went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Eagles. Morgan Ottobre and Chelsea Nelson went 2-for-3 for Clarke County. The Eagles will play at East Rockingham on Wednesday in the semifinals.
Baseball
Strasburg 22, Buckingham 5
STRASBURG -- The Rams erupted for 19 hits as they crushed the Knights in the Region B quarterfinals. Strasburg will host Chatham on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Todd Dean went 5-for-6 with six RBIs to lead the Rams (17-3). Sheldon Stickley was 3-for-4 with five runs scored and three RBIs and Michael Reynolds went 2-for-3 for Strasburg. Tyler Hott (7-1) picked up the win on the mound.
Strasburg scored three runs in each of the first three innings, and scored seven in the fourth.
